The meeting consisted of two stages: academic lectures and research project presentations, followed by the Council meeting. In the lecture and presentation stage, Lin Guchun — alumnus of the Class of 1979, Honorary Chairman of the Council, Chairman of Tianjin Guoshangren Group Co., Ltd., President of the Tianjin Jiangsu Chamber of Commerce and President of the Tianjin Property Management Association — drew on his own experience of leading the transformation and upgrading of a state-owned enterprise and of founding and growing businesses with his team. From voluntarily leading laid-off colleagues to start businesses from scratch while a senior manager at a state-owned store, to guiding his enterprise through transformation and upgrading into an industry benchmark, he integrated his credo — “the greatest enemy is oneself; the best friend is difficulty” — into the entire course of entrepreneurship. His philosophy of driving innovation and breakthroughs was deeply inspiring.
